Maggie Lena Walker devoted her life to civil rights advancement, economic empowerment, and educational opportunities for Jim Crow-era African Americans and women. As a bank president, newspaper editor, and fraternal leader, Walker served as an inspiration of pride and progress. Today, Walker’s home is preserved as a tribute to her enduring legacy of vision, courage, and determination.

Our list of WOW parks is not that large and we did not expect to be adding this park to that list, we were so wrong. The list of her accomplishments is nothing short of amazing and adding the barriers she had to break down, she set a high standard for those following her. The home was handed down through the family and is still furnished with her personal possessions. We had a great ranger led tour of the home. This should be a must stop for todays generation of kids.
